In a culture that celebrates strength, power, and independence, men are often taught that success means never showing weakness. Yet, Scripture paints a different picture, calling us to lay down pride and embrace humility. Jesus exemplified this as He humbled Himself to the point of death, setting aside His own will for the sake of others.
Pride creates barriers between us and God, as well as with others. It causes men to rely on their own strength, thinking they can handle life alone. But true strength is found in surrender. James 4:6 reminds us, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." When we release our pride, we open ourselves to God's grace and guidance, allowing Him to work through us.

Declaration of Dependence on God As men of faith, we declare our complete dependence on God. We confess that our strength is limited, our wisdom is finite, and our willpower often falters. But in God, we find unending strength, perfect wisdom, and the grace to persevere. We surrender our pride, acknowledging that apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). In every challenge, every decision, and every relationship, we choose to rely on His power and guidance, trusting that He will sustain us.
Surrendering pride isn’t a sign of weakness; it's a step toward becoming the man God has called you to be. It’s laying down the self-centered pursuit of recognition and control and, instead, trusting God's plan. This act of humility deepens relationships and builds a foundation of servant leadership.
In a world that values self-promotion, choosing humility is counter-cultural. But as men who seek after God, it's essential. Laying ourselves down means acknowledging that we need God, our families, and our communities. It's through surrendering our pride that we find true freedom and strength in Christ.
Embrace humility today, declare your dependence on God, and let Him lift you up in His time.
